General Manager – Waste Services
About the Opportunity
Our client is seeking a hands-on General Manager to lead and grow a waste services operation serving commercial, construction, industrial, and warehouse customers throughout greater Sacramento, California.
This is a true business management role for someone who enjoys creating business opportunities, developing customer relationships, leading a small team, and driving profitable growth. The General Manager will have responsibility for the overall performance of the territory, including sales, operations, customer relationships, fleet readiness, and financial results.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the overall performance and profitability of the territory.
- Develop new business through direct prospecting, customer meetings, demonstrations, pricing, and closing.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with commercial customers and identify opportunities for account growth.
- Oversee invoicing, collections, and overall account health.
- Lead and develop a small team of drivers and field employees.
- Maintain high standards for driver safety, equipment readiness, and preventative maintenance.
- Monitor fleet performance and ensure equipment is available and properly maintained.
- Use business systems and technology to manage customers, sales activity, fleet performance, and reporting.
- Conduct regular team meetings and customer account reviews.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and grow the business.
- Step into field operations when needed to support customers and the team.
What We're Looking For
- Proven B2B sales experience with a track record of closing business.
- Experience managing a branch, territory, P&L, or field-based operation strongly preferred.
- Background in waste services, construction services, industrial services, field services, or a related environment is a plus.
- Hands-on leadership style with the ability to work alongside field employees and customers.
- Strong business judgment and understanding of revenue, profitability, and cost management.
- Organized and self-directed, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Comfortable learning and using CRM, fleet management, and other business technology.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to operate commercial equipment after training.
- Ability to work daily within the Sacramento–Stockton market.
